The current school, originally built in 1862, underwent major extension work in 1971 and again in 1999. It now provides excellent accommodation for up to six classes, with a computer centre, music practice room, library and new sports hall. Outside there is a large playground, sports field, pond and conservation area.

Great Longstone Pre-School provides a small friendly environment for children aged 2 ½ to school age, opening 39 weeks per year following the School Term Times. The opening times are Monday to Friday mornings 9am to 12 noon and may offer additional 1 hour lunch club sessions and/or afternoon sessions if there is demand from parents.
