Volunteering

Thornhill House would not be able to function as well as it does without the help and support of our volunteers.   They are not only a valuable resource to us and much appreciated by staff and residents at the home but they also provide a valuable input from the community.

They help us out daily with a morning coffee round, deliver "meals on wheels" 365 days a year to the elderly of the village, help with outings and man stalls at fund raising events.  Our volunteers also help out by bringing in specially trained ‘pat dogs’ for our residents to pet or just call in to spend time with our residents for a chat.  We have help with cake baking, sewing and some even actively participate with our house committee or take minutes at meetings.

We get help with gardening and fundraising, playing the piano and the Great Longstone Senior Citizens group who meet here once a fortnight.

Many of our volunteering opportunities are often as much a social event as they are hard work.

All our volunteers require a Criminal Record Bureau check.

Young Volunteers.  Here at Thornhill House we are keen to offer work experience placements when possible and we actively encourage youngsters who are undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Award to carry out their Community Service section with us.
