GLCC & Sheffield Collegiate pre-match for the
Matt Lythgoe Trophy and re-opening of the
refurbished tea hut.
Sincere Thanks
Alan and I have been overwhelmed by
all your prayers and good wishes
during my recent major surgery. The
surgeon has never seen such a
speedy recovery! It is lovely to be
home again amongst such kind and
thoughtful people who continue to offer
help and support to both of us. It
certainly underlines the "great" in
Great Longstone (of course not
forgetting my friends in Little
Longstone too!). Sincere thanks from
us both.

On Saturday 15
th
April we were honoured to have Mark and Lynne Lythgoe
officially open the refurbished tea-hut. Music was provided by Tideswell Brass
Band before and after the opening ceremony. Lunch was provided in the tea
hut and drinks were served from the bar outside. The weather was fine and
before a large crowd a game of cricket between Great Longstone and Sheffield
Collegiate followed competing for the Matt Lythgoe Trophy. Due to overwhelming
demand to play in this game the sides consisted of 16 a-side. The game
comprised 25 overs per side with only 11 players to field at one time but all
players eligible to bat and a maximum of 4 overs per bowler.
In an entertaining fun game Collegiate batted first scoring 195 off their allotted
overs. Longstone never quite managed to keep up with the required scoring
rate. Despite a 50 from John Frankland and some lusty blows from Duncan
Finney and Paul and Sam Rotheram , Longstone fell short of their opponents
total by 20 runs.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to support this project and opening
event.
