What have been our successes this year?
Each year we work very hard to make sure that all our children are reaching their full potential and
that the oldest children leave us confident and enthusiastic about their future in secondary school
and beyond. This year was no exception, with SAT scores showing really strong progress by
children throughout the ability range.Children working at levels higher than those tested at primary
schools achieved very well indeed.
Alongside our children's achievements in the Core subjects, lots of good work was carried out in
the wider curriculum. We have continued to employ specialist teachers for PE,ICT, music, drama
and French and the children have worked to a very high standard in these areas.
Major projects have included extending the playground and redeveloping our woodland and pond
areas and we are currently building a full cooking kitchen, so that we can provide our own freshly-
cooked meals.
What are we trying to improve?
Having had the school's playground extended, we are now busy developing the area to be as
attractive and stimulating as possible. With the help of our School Council, we have chosen a range
of outdoor games equipment and have built a large Wendy House to keep it all in. We are also
developing a courtyard within the school for structured play activities for our very youngest children.
Teachers with responsibilities for subjects such as art, RE, geography and history are working
closely with class teachers in order to help further develop the teaching of their subjects throughout
the school.
We are constantly looking for ways to improve communication with parents. A lot goes on at
school and it is important that we make sure that everyone is kept fully informed. We have started
FOLS (Friends of Longstone School) and school newsletters and are looking to develop these in the
future.
